I first heard of ChatGPT earlier this year and for a while, was skeptical about the software. Generally, I am wary of AI tools and have definitely gone down many rabbit holes of watching documentaries on the pros and cons of this type of technology.
In my professional context, ChatGPT has not really come up, though that could be due to the department I work in. I would be more concerned if the subject I taught was English or Social Sciences and students could use the tool for plagiarism purposes. I am still looking into ways to use this tool for the greater good and embed it into my curriculum somehow. Before that though, there are other priorities for myself when it comes to classroom planning.
I was surprised by how simple it was to use ChatGPT and have used it to spark ideas for lesson plans, and gain more information and insights on readings. I think of it almost like Wikipedia in a way; use it as a starting source to get the ideas flowing but adapt it to your needs and how you best see fit.
