Research Question

How does STEAM education help students develop problem-solving skills and adapt to real-world challenges?

What is STEAM Education?

STEAM Education is a learning approach that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics to guide student inquiry, dialogue, and promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

STEAM education includes the benefits of STEM education and more: It integrates principles in and through the Arts. STEAM learning encourages art practices, elements, design, and standards.

The Benefits of STEAM Learning

  • The earlier students are exposed to the STEAM cross-curriculum, the earlier they will learn to think critically, creatively, problem solve, and have a deeper appreciation for the five fields (Lathan, 2022).

  • Students will be better prepared for future career opportunities

  • Students become equipped with technology and have the tools they need for the digital world (Marín-Marín et al., 2021).

  • Students will learn how to practice a growth mindset

  • Stakeholders will learn how these 5 strands are correlated, connected and applicable to everyday life (global connections)

"Sciences provide an understanding of a universal experience, Arts are a universal understanding of a personal experience... they are both a part of us and a manifestation of the same thing... the arts and sciences are avatars of human creativity." - Mae Jemison, Engineer, Physician & NASA Astronaut
