Colleen and I talk about the world of virtual teaching, and how completing the B.Ed program during a pandemic has affected our teaching styles and made us into the educators that we are today.
My interview questions for her:
Let’s start with the pros. So you and I have taught a variety of grades virtually since the pandemic started, but you have taught a lot of primary/junior learners specifically. What are some of the benefits of virtual learning with this age group that you’ve found in your experience?
As we’ve discovered, there are a lot of cons to virtual learning as well. Can you tell me about a time when you were a student in the B.Ed program [which we completed virtually] when something hindered your learning, and how you used this experience to better your own teaching?
What is your favourite assessment tool to use in the virtual classroom?
Is there a teaching style or mindset that you learned from virtual teaching, that you will carry forward with you as we transition back to the in-person classroom?
If you could give any piece of advice to a teacher candidate about virtual teaching or learning, what would it be?
