The purposes of education:
To help prepare students for academic success, their careers, and to help them become an active member of society.
Teaches them how to become economically responsible.
To provide students with the resources and skills to understand their own cultures and be open minded and respectful of other social groups.
Assists with the development of physical, social, intellectual, and emotional capabilities.
How equity and education relate:
According to the United Nations (2022), Sustainable Development Goal #4 is to, “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” If equity occurs, then each individual will be given the opportunity to succeed in education. However, due to many reasons such as socioeconomic status, race, biases, and environment, achievement gaps and inequities are common amongst education.
