EMOJI CHECK-IN
I conducted a daily mental health check-in form using Google Slides. Students selected an emoji that they resonated with that day, and wrote a sentence as to why they chose that emoji. It was an insightful way for me to see how students were doing.
HOW ARE YOU TODAY? CHECK-IN
Another alternative to the emoji check-in, was this mental health check-in form using Google Forms. Students selected a GIF that they resonated with that day, and filled out why they were feeling that way. Unlike the emoji check-in, this form was anonymous.
WORK PERIOD PREFERENCES
I asked students to reflect on their work period preferences and polled them using Google Forms, so I could incorporate these breakout room styles into my lessons. Most students preferred the main meet plus teacher help room option. Only a handful of students preferred breakout rooms.
FUN FRIDAY ACTIVITIES
I created Instagram-style music templates and uploaded them to Google Classroom. I asked students to share their responses in the class Google Chat, so they could compare and connect with one another's responses. Many of them responded positively to the the visual appeal of these templates and enjoyed sharing their responses in the class chat, which had not been very active prior to these activities.
