The topic for my project is on The Role of Music in Regulating Emotions in Theatre Narratives. I am considering exploring the artistic, psychological, and sociological aspects of musical theatre education within my presentation. I have decided to focus on this particular topic because it combines my two teaching subjects, Music and Drama in secondary school, and is very applicable to my professional practice at the moment, as we are planning to cast our school musical. This will be the first musical our school has put on since the COVID-19 pandemic, and the first one that I will be a part of in the teacher role. Musical Theatre helped me cope with my emotional regulation and mental health back when I was a student. I always appreciated how it brought people from various backgrounds and disciplines together with one common goal: To put on a successful show.
The format I have selected for my Capstone is a Google Slides PD-presentation. Our school board uses Google regularly so this presentation could be easily shared to participants within my board on Professional Development days. The target audience will be other Arts staff, administrators, and policy holders that design interdisciplinary elective subjects. This format will allow me to include interactive elements, text, audio, and videos into my presentation.
